The 2017 Lifetime Conference
On Tuesday the 19th of September, the whole of the Lifetime Group descended on the beautiful Heythrop Park in Oxfordshire for the 2017 Lifetime Conference.
With a theme of ‘Dare to Challenge’, the team at Lifetime set out a goal of making this year’s conference the best ever. With over 30 sponsors and providers joining us on the day, a brand new venue and an amazing guest speaker, we couldn’t wait to get started.
To kick off the day, we had some great talks from Lifetime’s own Carlos Thibaut and Jim Austin as well as hearing more about Virgin’s ‘Push Challenge’ from Simon Wallace. Just before the break, we heard from 360’s Mark Dryden telling us about the latest advancements in AI.
After a quick coffee and chat with our sponsors, we were straight back into the main auditorium for another round of talks started by Jason Ruse from Key Retirement. After Jason, Debbie and Aaron from Lifetime Solicitors shared some eye-opening personal stories about the need for wills and power of attorneys. The last talk before lunch was from i-Pipeline’s David Smith, who with the help of directors Ufuk, Ozgur, Jim Showler and Simon Jones, had the whole room in stitches.
After lunch, everyone filed off for another round of talks in the Mortgage and Protection and Wealth rooms. On the mortgage side, we had some great talks from sponsors BM Solutions, Virgin, Aviva and 27Tec. In the Wealth room, Lifetime’s Dave Owen kicked us off, followed by Quilter Cheviot, Aegon and finally Vitality.
After another coffee break, compliance director Jim Showler started us off down the home stretch with a little political enlightenment and how it relates to issues facing our industry. We were then graced by our special guest speaker for the day, Jamie McDonald. In 2014, Jamie finished a historic journey across Canada, becoming the first person in history to run the 5,000 miles from the Atlantic coast to the Pacific coast and raised more than £250,000 for sick children in Canada and the UK. Hearing about the trials and tribulations of his challenges had the whole audience stuck to the edge of their seats.
To cap off the day, the Lifetime awards were presented by director Jim Austin and CEO Paul Merrigan. To round off an amazing day, Paul delivered an inspiring speech and really hit home on the theme, ‘Dare to Challenge‘ as we look towards the future as a company.
With the 2017 conference in the books, it was time to get ready for the evening gala dinner. During the night, everyone from Lifetime pitched in and raised an estimated £4,000 for the Dallaglio Foundation which is a fantastic cause. The rest as they say is history as we ate and danced the night away until the early hours of morning! Here’s a few of our favourite shots.
We’d like this opportunity to express our gratitude to all of our sponsors and providers who make the conference possible. A huge thank you to Jamie McDonald and all those that delivered talks and kept us engaged throughout the day. We hope you all had a great time and are already looking forward to next year!
